He is Principal Investigator of the first of its kind Cohort study in India entitled A population based cohort study to unravel the causes of stroke and cognitive decline in collaboration with the Rotterdam Study Group, Erasmus MC, The Netherlands. Under UK India Education Research Initiative, he has established the largest blood bio repository of stroke in India, in collaboration with Imperial College, London, UK. He has been the national Coordinator of many International Stroke Trials viz. IST, STICH, ENOS etc. His Cochrane review of Surgery in Intracerebral hemorrhage was first to establish the role of surgery in the condition. Dr. Prasad has been a member of the International Advisory Committee, Asia Pacific Forum for Quality improvement in Healthcare Editorial Group of Practical Neurology a British Medical Journal publication Editorial Group, Cochrane ARI Review Group, Australia Infectious Diseases and ARI Review Group of International Cochrane Collaboration and International Clinical Epidemiology Network. Dr. Prasad is member of the Editorial Board of several national and international journals including British Medical Journal, Practical Neurology etc. Dr. Prasad is also a referee for many national international journals and organizations including British Medical Journal, Medical Research Council UK, Wellcome Trust, Cochrane, Lancet Neurology, Stroke and many others. He is Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board, Panel Area for Stroke Registry, Indian Council of Medical Research, and has been the Convenor of the National Stroke Management Guidelines India. Dr. Prasad coordinated the first multicentric national randomized study of role of bone marrow derived stem cell therapy in stroke, which is first of its kind study at global level published in the American Stroke Association Journal Stroke. He has been the principal investigator of several stem cell studies in stroke model and genetics of stroke funded by Government of India.
